Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Detained Twice at Demonstration in the Netherlands

Climate activist Greta Thunberg was detained twice by police during a demonstration at The Hague in the Netherlands, Reuters reports.

Thunberg and other protesters were initially held by local police for blocking a major highway into the city. After her release, she rejoined a smaller group blocking a different road and was detained again. Thunberg stated her protest was against the existential crisis the world is facing due to climate change.

Activists have been attempting to block the A12 highway multiple times in recent months to demand an end to fossil fuel subsidies. While police did not comment on individual cases, they stated that anyone obstructing roads was detained, without disclosing the number of arrests.
