Finland School Shooting Kills One Student, Injures Two Others

A 12-year-old student opened fire at a secondary school in Vantaa, southern Finland, killing one student and seriously wounding two others, Associated Press reports.

The suspect was later apprehended and the weapon used was a registered handgun licensed to a relative of the suspect. The suspect admitted to the shooting but the motive remains unclear. The suspect, under the age of criminal liability, will be handed over to child welfare authorities after being heard by the police. The case is being investigated as a murder and two attempted murders.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo expressed shock and offered condolences to the victims’ families.
