4 Law Officers Killed, 4 Injured While Serving Warrant in North Carolina

Four law enforcement officers were killed and four others wounded during a shootout at a residence in North Carolina while serving a warrant for a felon wanted for possessing a firearm, Associated Press reports.

The officers were met with gunfire when they approached the house, resulting in a three-hour standoff, until the residence was breached with armored vehicles. The suspect, who remains unnamed, was killed in the front yard, while a second person fired on officers from inside the house. A woman and a 17-year-old male were found in the home and are being questioned.

The fallen officers include one US Marshals agent, two officers from the state Department of Adult Correction, and a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer. Several others were injured, including a member of the task force and three Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers who responded to the scene.
