Erdogan Announces Turkey’s First Astronaut

On Saturday, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey will get its first astronaut by the end of the year, AP News reports.

Air force pilot Alper Gezeravci, 43, will become the first Turkish citizen in space and stay at the International Space Station for two weeks.

The announcement is one of a number of prestigious projects that Erdogan has unveiled during his election campaign ahead of the May 14 election.
