OpenAI Founder Ilya Sutskever Starts New AI Company

Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder of OpenAI who recently left the company after an unsuccessful attempt to remove CEO Sam Altman, announced he is starting a new AI company named Safe Superintelligence Inc., Associated Press reports.

The company, co-founded with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, aims to develop AI systems smarter than humans called “superintelligence.” The new company, based in California’s Palo Alto and Israel’s Tel Aviv, intends to prioritize AI safety and security without the distractions of management or commercial pressures.

Sutskever, who co-led OpenAI’s AGI development team, left OpenAI amidst internal debates on balancing business goals and AI safety. Following his departure, his team co-leader Jan Leike also resigned, criticizing OpenAI for deprioritizing safety.
