Finland Says Four Russian Military Planes Violated Its Airspace

Finland suspects that four Russian military planes violated its airspace on June 10, three more than initially reported, according to the Finnish Border Guard, Reuters reports.

The Finnish Defense Ministry initially identified only one Russian aircraft infringing the airspace above the Gulf of Finland for about two minutes. However, further investigation revealed three additional aircraft, bringing the total to four, two bombers and two fighter jets, that penetrated approximately 2.5 km into Finnish territory near Loviisa.

Finland’s Chief of Defence Janne Jaakkola emphasized that serious and deliberate airspace violations would prompt a reaction, but the investigation is still ongoing. The last confirmed airspace violation by Russian aircraft was in August 2022.
