Elon Musk’s X is Now Hiding ‘Likes’ on Public Posts

Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has implemented a new update making likes private for all users to enhance privacy, Associated Press reports.

Users can still see their own likes, but others cannot, effectively removing the public “Likes” tab from profiles. The change, effective Wednesday, aims to encourage more user engagement, as indicated by a pop-up notification suggesting that liking more posts will enhance the “For you” feed. Previously, the option to hide likes was exclusive to Premium subscribers.

This update follows a series of significant changes since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform for $44 billion in 2022, including the removal and partial restoration of blue verification checks for non-Premium users. The platform has faced mixed reactions to these changes, with concerns about misinformation, content moderation, and rising hate speech.
