AMD Launches New AI Chips to Challenge Nvidia

AMD has unveiled its latest AI processors at the Computex technology trade show in Taipei, aiming to challenge Nvidia’s dominance in the AI market, Reuters reports.

AMD CEO Lisa Su introduced the MI325X accelerator, set to be released in Q4 2024, with plans for further AI chip development over the next two years. The MI350 series, expected in 2025, promises a 35x performance boost in inference, while the MI400 series, due in 2026, will feature a new chip architecture called “Next.” This move mirrors Nvidia’s strategy of annual chip releases.

AMD’s focus on AI reflects its anticipation of a $4 billion AI chip market in 2024. Additionally, AMD announced advancements in central processor units (CPUs) and neural processing units (NPUs) for on-device AI tasks in PCs. The company’s partnerships with PC providers like HP and Lenovo signal a broader integration of its AI chips in consumer devices.
