OpenAI Co-Founder Ilya Sutskever to Leave ChatGPT Maker

OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever and a key figure behind ChatGPT, has announced his departure from the company after nearly a decade, Associated Press reports.

This decision comes amidst some internal turmoil within OpenAI last fall, when Sutskever and three other board members voted to oust CEO Sam Altman, only to quickly reverse the decision and reinstate him afterwards. It was Sutskever, in his role as OpenAI’s chief scientist, who informed Altman in November that he was being fired.

Sutskever announced his departure on the social media platform X, citing that he is working on a new project that holds personal significance for him but did not provide further details about it. Altman responded to the news with sadness, describing Sutskever as “one of the greatest minds of our generation” and a close friend. Sutskever will be replaced by Jakub Pachocki as chief scientist.
