OpenAI has introduced its latest AI model, GPT-4o, which marks a significant advancement in mimicking human-like conversation and attempting to understand people’s emotions, Associated Press reports.
During a demonstration, GPT-4o, referred to as “omni,” showcased its capabilities in real-time interactions. It could add emotion, particularly “more drama,” to its voice as requested. It also demonstrated problem-solving skills by guiding through simple math equations and tackling complex software coding problems on a computer screen. Moreover, it attempted to analyze a person’s emotional state by analyzing a selfie video and translated conversations between English and Italian to facilitate multilingual interactions. GPT-4o is set to power OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, making it available to users, including those using the free version, in the coming weeks
However, some analysts view OpenAI’s update as playing catch-up to larger rivals like Google. Gartner analyst Chirag Dekate noted that many of the capabilities showcased by OpenAI were familiar and resembled advanced versions seen in Google’s Gemini 1.5 pro launch. Google is expected to unveil updates to its own AI model at its upcoming developer conference.
