Iraqi social media influencer Om Fahad was shot dead in her car by a man on a motorbike, pretending to be making a food delivery, outside her Baghdad home, The Guardian reports.
Om Fahad gained popularity on TikTok for her lighthearted videos featuring herself dancing to Iraqi music in tight-fitting clothing. In February last year, she was sentenced to six months in prison for sharing videos deemed indecent by the court.
The Iraqi government launched a campaign in 2023 to regulate social media content violating “morals and traditions,” leading to the arrest of several influencers. The killing of Om Fahad echoes the 2018 murder of model and influencer Tara Fares in Baghdad.
