Russia Says Ukraine Struck Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant, Kyiv Denies

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station in Ukraine, controlled by Russian forces since 2022, was reportedly struck three times. Russia accuses Ukraine of the attacks, but Kyiv denies involvement, Reuters reports.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed the attacks and emphasized the danger to nuclear safety. Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom claims the attacks were carried out by Ukraine using drones, while Ukraine’s intelligence agency suggested they were perpetrated by Russian forces.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry urged global leaders to condemn the act, labeling the attacks as “nuclear terrorism.” The IAEA urged an immediate halt to such actions, stressing the severity of attacking a nuclear facility.
