Apple Lays Off Over 600 Employees in California

Apple is laying off 614 workers in California, marking its first significant round of layoffs since the Covid pandemic began, CNBC reports.

The affected employees worked at eight different facilities in Santa Clara and include machine shop managers, hardware engineers, and product design engineers. They were formally informed of the layoffs on March 28, with the changes set to take effect on May 27.

Unlike many of its counterparts in the tech industry, Apple had managed to avoid substantial downsizing throughout the pandemic. However, the move comes shortly after Apple scrapped a long-running project aimed at developing an electric, self-driving car.
