Tajikistan Says Migrants Fleeing Russia After Moscow Concert Hall Attack

Tajikistan has witnessed a surge in migrant workers returning from Russia following a deadly attack on a Moscow concert hall, which claimed the lives of at least 144 people, Reuters reports.

The attack, one of the deadliest in Russia in two decades, was perpetrated by gunmen, four of whom were Tajik citizens. This event has instilled fear and panic among Tajik citizens living in Russia, prompting many to seek refuge back home. Tajikistan’s Ministry of Labour, Migration, and Employment has reported an increase in calls from concerned citizens and a noticeable influx of migrants returning to Tajikistan.

The outflow of migrant workers from Russia could exacerbate labor shortages, particularly in the construction industry, affecting the economy. However, Tajikistan anticipates that this migration trend will be temporary.
