Zelensky Says 31,000 Ukrainian Soldiers Killed Since Start of Russian Invasion

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action since Russia’s full-scale invasion two years ago, refuting higher estimates provided by the Russian government, Associated Press reports.

Zelensky disclosed this figure during the “Ukraine. Year 2024” forum in Kyiv, emphasizing the significant sacrifices made by Ukrainian forces. He declined to disclose the number of wounded or missing troops and highlighted the challenges in determining civilian casualties in occupied areas.

This is the first time Kyiv has confirmed its casualties since the war began in 2022. Reports suggest a substantial number of casualties on the Russian side, with independent sources estimating about 75,000 Russian men killed in 2022 and 2023.
