Ukraine Replaces Popular Army Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has replaced Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi to revitalize the country’s military efforts in the ongoing war with Russia, which has entered its third year, Associated Press reports.

Zelensky appointed Col. Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi, known for his leadership during the defense of Kyiv and successful counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region, as the new army leader. Syrskyi is expected to boost morale and bring new strategies to the Ukrainian army.

Zaluzhnyi, although highly regarded, faced criticism after a failed counteroffensive last summer. Zaluzhnyi’s departure comes amid challenges such as ammunition shortages and stagnant progress in the conflict.
