Microsoft Makes Its AI-Powered Reading Tutor Available for Free

Microsoft has made its AI-powered tool Reading Coach, which offers personalized reading practice, available for free to users with a Microsoft account, TechCrunch reports.

The tool is available on the web in preview, with a Windows app in development and plans to integrate it with learning management systems in late spring. Reading Coach is built on the success of Reading Progress, which helps teachers foster reading fluency in students.

The tool allows learners to identify challenging words and offers tools like text-to-speech, syllable breaking, and picture dictionaries for personalized practice. Educators can view learners’ progress, view practiced words, attempts made, and tools used.

Reading Coach recently added a “choose your own story” feature powered by Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service, allowing learners to generate their own narrative adventure with AI assistance.
