Japan Earthquake Death Toll Reaches 100

The 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck western Japan has resulted in a death toll of 100 individuals and triggered tsunamis, landslides, and fires, causing widespread destruction, Associated Press reports.

The hardest-hit region is Ishikawa prefecture, where officials reported 59 deaths in Wajima and 23 deaths in Suzu. Around 211 individuals remain missing and over 500 people are reported injured.

The United States has announced $100,000 in aid, and thousands of Japanese troops are involved in relief efforts. Concerns about disease and lack of supplies arise in evacuation centers that house around 34,000 people who lost their homes.
