Japan Issues Tsunami Warnings Following a Series of Earthquakes

Japan has issued tsunami alerts and ordered evacuations on its west coast following a series of earthquakes, including one with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6, Associated Press reports.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported over a dozen quakes off the coast of Ishikawa and nearby prefectures. At least six homes were damaged with people trapped under rubble and electricity was cut for over 30,000 households. No deaths or injuries have been confirmed.

Major tsunami warnings were issued for Ishikawa, and lower-level warnings were given for the western coast of Honshu and Hokkaido. The public was urged to evacuate to higher ground immediately with warnings of water reaching up to 5 meters high in certain areas.
