Amazon Prime Video to Start Showing Ads in January

Starting January 29, 2024, Amazon Prime Video will introduce ads on its platform for US users in movies and TV shows, Prime members can opt for an ad-free experience by paying an additional $2.99 per month, Associated Press reports.

Amazon aims to keep the ad frequency lower than traditional TV and other streaming services, using the revenue to invest more in content over time. The company plans to roll out this ad model in several countries, including the UK, other parts of Europe, Canada, Mexico, and Australia.

This move follows the strategy of other major streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney, which also offer an ad-free option at a higher subscription fee.
