Meta’s Threads App Launches in Europe

Meta’s Threads app, referred to as a “Twitter killer,” has launched in the European Union (EU), expanding its user base and competing directly with X (formerly Twitter), The Guardian reports.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the EU launch on Threads, noting that users now have the option to browse Threads without creating an account or linking it to Instagram.

The app, launched in July 2023, had faced delays in its EU debut due to privacy laws, with Meta seeking approval from the European Commission. The delay was speculated to be linked to the EU Digital Markets Act, addressing big tech antitrust and privacy concerns.

Threads, which gained over 100 million users in its first week, has seen fluctuations in user activity, but Meta remains optimistic about its growth.
