Amazon Lays Off Hundreds in Its Alexa Division, Shifting Resources into AI

Amazon is cutting hundreds of jobs in its Alexa unit as it shifts resources toward artificial intelligence, AP News reports.

Daniel Rausch, Amazon’s vice president of Alexa and Fire TV, stated in a note to employees that the move is part of an effort to better align with business priorities and maximize resources for generative AI.

Rausch did not provide an exact figure but stated that “several hundred” positions would be affected. The job cuts will impact employees in the US, Canada, and India.

Amazon has been increasingly investing in AI initiatives, including integrating AI into customer reviews and offering services for developers to build their AI tools on AWS cloud infrastructure.
