OpenAI has appointed Emmett Shear, the former CEO of Twitch, as its interim CEO following the sudden removal of Sam Altman, who was ousted due to concerns about his lack of transparency with the board, CNBC reports.
Shear acknowledged that the process of removing Altman had been poorly handled, leading to a loss of trust in the company. As part of his initial 30-day plan, Shear will conduct an investigation into the events leading to Altman’s removal and introduce necessary changes, including governance adjustments if needed.
Shear described the opportunity to lead OpenAI as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” Shear emphasized the importance of commercializing OpenAI’s models and highlighted his commitment to a strong partnership with Microsoft.
