OpenAI Fires CEO Sam Altman, the Face of the AI Boom

OpenAI has removed co-founder and CEO Sam Altman from his position following a review that found he was “not consistently candid in his communications” with the board of directors, AP News reports.

The board stated that it no longer had confidence in Altman’s ability to lead OpenAI. Instead, OpenAI’s chief technology officer Mira Murati will serve as interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent replacement.

The reasons for Altman’s departure were not disclosed, only that his behavior and alleged lack of candor were hindering the board’s ability to exercise its responsibilities.

Another co-founder and top executive, Greg Brockman, will step down as the board’s chairman but remain at the company as president.
