Ukraine Gains the Initiative in the Black Sea, Zelensky Says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine has gained the upper hand against Russia in the Black Sea, forcing Russian naval fleets and warships to retreat, thanks to the use of naval drones, Reuters reports.

Despite Russia initially blocking Ukrainian Black Sea ports and damaging infrastructure during the invasion, the balance of power shifted after Ukraine deployed a fleet of naval drones for the first time in the Black Sea.

Zelensky expressed gratitude to Black Sea countries, including Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova, for their support in restoring stability to the world food market and safeguarding maritime export corridors.

Ukraine set up an alternative corridor in August after Russia exited the UN-brokered Black Sea Grain Initiative, allowing Ukraine to export 4 million metric tonnes of cargo through the new corridor.
