Slovakia Announces Halt of Military Aid to Ukraine

Slovakia’s new Prime Minister Robert Fico has expressed his opposition to providing further military aid to Ukraine and supporting additional sanctions against Russia during his first European Union summit, Reuters reports.

Fico campaigned on a platform of halting military aid to Ukraine, making foreign policy more independent, and protecting the country’s borders from illegal migrants.

He emphasized that he believes there is no military solution to the situation in Ukraine and is concerned about the impact of sanctions on Slovakia. Instead, he has expressed support for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts and endorsed peace talks for Ukraine.
