EU Warns Elon Musk of Disinformation on X After Hamas Attack

EU has called on Elon Musk to address the spread of disinformation on his social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to comply with EU online content rules, Reuters reports.

EU industry chief Thierry Breton expressed concerns about X being used to disseminate illegal content and disinformation in the European Union.

Breton said that X was being used to report fake content and glorification of violence following the Palestinian militant group Hamas’s attack on Israel.

He urged Musk to ensure that X’s systems effectively combat these issues and expects a complete response within the next 24 hours.

The Digital Services Act (DSA) requires large online platforms to remove illegal content and address risks to public security and civic discourse.

Failure to comply with the DSA can result in EU fines of up to 6% of a company’s global turnover.

Musk responded on X that the company’s policy was that everything is open source and transparent.
