Norwegian Author Jon Fosse Awarded Nobel Prize in Literature

The 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Norwegian author Jon Fosse, known for his minimalist Nordic prose, AP News reports.

His writing has been recognized for giving “voice to the unsayable” and delving into themes of human insecurity and life choices.

Fosse has authored 40 plays, novels, short stories, children’s books, poetry, and essays, employing a sparse style with repetitions of simple expressions that convey deeper meanings.

One distinctive aspect of Fosse is that he writes in Nynorsk, one of Norway’s two official written standards, which marks a significant moment for this minority language.
