EU Countries Reach Deal on Migration Policy

EU member states have reached an agreement on new procedures for handling irregular immigration during periods of high arrivals, Al Jazeera reports.

The “crisis regulation” agreement aims to establish order at the EU’s external borders and reduce migration flows.

The package includes additional support for countries like Italy, where many refugees arrive through the Mediterranean.

The establishment of processing centers at the EU’s outer borders and increased authority to detain asylum seekers while their claims are processed.

Despite opposition from some EU member states, including Hungary and Poland, the deal ultimately passed with a majority vote.
