George R.R. Martin Sues ChatGPT Owner OpenAI

Seventeen authors, including George R.R. Martin, John Grisham, and Jodi Picoult, have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, AP News reports.

The lawsuit, organized by the Authors Guild, accuses OpenAI’s ChatGPT program of “systematic theft on a mass scale” of their copyrighted works.

The suit cites instances where ChatGPT generated content that allegedly infringes on their copyrights, like using characters from existing books.

OpenAI responded, stating that it respects the authors’ rights and is having productive conversations with creators to address their concerns about AI.
