EU Launches Anti-Subsidy Probe into Chinese Electric Vehicles

The European Union (EU) has launched an investigation into China’s subsidies for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, Al Jazeera reports.

This anti-subsidy investigation encompasses battery-powered vehicles from China, including non-Chinese brands produced there, such as Tesla, Renault, and BMW.

The EU is worried that China’s state subsidies are causing an influx of low-priced Chinese electric cars in global markets, distorting fair competition.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the anti-subsidy investigation due to concerns it might negatively impact European companies.

China’s Commerce Ministry opposes the investigation, accusing the EU of protectionism in the name of fair competition, AP News reports.
