US to Proceed with Transfer of F-16 Jets to Turkey

The US will proceed with the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey following the news that Turkey has agreed to approve Sweden’s NATO bid, Reuters reports.

In October 2021, Turkey requested to purchase $20 billion worth of F-16 fighters and modernization kits for its airforce.

Senator Bob Menendez, who previously blocked the transfer, is currently in discussions with the Biden administration and may lift the hold.

Some analysts speculate that Turkey used the membership issue as a bargaining chip to pressure the US on the warplanes.
