Microsoft to Pay $20 Million FTC Settlement for Collecting Children’s Data

Microsoft has been fined $20 million by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), AP News reports.

The FTC found that Microsoft collected data from children who created an account on its Xbox video game console without parents’ permission.

The company has since fixed the technical glitch that failed to delete child accounts that never finished the sign-up process.
