Turkey Headed for a Second Round of Elections

On Sunday, neither President Recep Tayyip Erdogan nor opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu gained a majority in the Turkish presidential election, Reuters reports.

Erdogan received 49.39% of the votes, while challenger Kilicdaroglu gained 44.82% and third candidate Sinan Ogan received 5.3%.

Neither candidate reached the threshold of 50% required to win the election in the first round, thus a second round of elections is expected on May 28.
