‘The Godfather of AI’ Warns of Killer Robots

Geoffrey Hinton, often called “the Godfather of AI,” says that a part of him regrets his life’s work and has quit Google to warn about the technology, NY Times reports.

Dr. Hinton says that tech giants are locked in an aggressive competition to create products based on generative artificial intelligence.

He fears individuals or companies will allow AI systems to generate and run their own computer code, and risk creating AI robots they can’t control.

He is worried that the technology will pose a threat to humanity and that one day autonomous weapons “killer robots” will become a reality.
