UK Blocks Microsoft Acquisition of Activision Blizzard

On Wednesday, UK’s Competition and Market Authority (CMA) blocked Microsoft’s acquisition of video game publisher Activision Blizzard, CNBC reports.

The CMA opposes the deal due to competition concerns and that Microsoft would become a too dominant player in the cloud gaming market.

Microsoft could make Activision’s games exclusive to its cloud gaming platform Xbox Game Pass and cut off access to other distributors.

In January 2022, Microsoft announced its decision to acquire Activision Blizzard for $69 billion, one of the biggest deals in the video game industry.
