Italy Bans ChatGPT Over Privacy Concerns

Italy becomes the first Western country to block OpenAI’s ChatGPT “with immediate effect” due to privacy concerns, reports BBC.

Italy’s data protection authority will investigate if it complies with EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for gathering user data.

The app is intended for people over 13 years old, but there is no way to verify the age of users and it “exposes minors to unsuitable answers,” reports Euronews.

OpenAI has 20 days to remedy the situation or it would risk a fine of 4% of its annual worldwide turnover.
