On Monday, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Sweden not to expect support for its NATO bid following protests by an anti-Islam activist and pro-Kurdish groups in Stockholm.
On Saturday, Erdogan condemned Rasmus Paludan’s Quran-burning protest outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm and criticized how Swedish officials handled the situation.
He also criticized Sweden for allowing pro-Kurdish demonstrations, including the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), considered as a terrorist group in Turkey.
Swedish officials said that the Swedish Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, which gives people extensive rights to express their views publicly.
