Protests Erupt at Foxconn iPhone Plant in China Due to COVID Restrictions

On Wednesday, hundreds of workers went on a protest at Foxconn’s iPhone plant in Zhengzhou, China, due to strict quarantine rules.

Discontent over strict quarantine rules has launched a wave of protests at the world’s largest iPhone plant, which employees around 200,000 people.

In October, Foxconn imposed a “closed loop system” where staff live and work on site. However, workers are outraged at the poor living conditions and the company’s failure to halt COVID outbreaks.

Footage shows workers taking down quarantine barriers and clashing with people in full hazmat suits carrying batons.

Foxconn is Apple’s biggest iPhone manufacturer and account for 70% of all iPhone shipments globally. Its output could decrease by up to 30% in November, according to Reuters.
