Serena Williams Announces Her Retirement from Tennis

On Tuesday, tennis star Serena Williams announced she will retire in September after the US Open in a Vogue article.
"I have never liked the word 'retirement.' Maybe the best word to describe what I'm up to is 'evolution.' I'm here to tell you that I'm evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me."

In the announcement, Williams, who turns 41 next month, expressed her regret of not becoming the GOAT and surpass Margaret Court's record of 24 grand slam titles.

Instead she will focus on her family, writing that her almost five-year-old daughter wants to be an older sister. Williams is married to Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.
Williams has won 73 career singles titles, 23 career doubles titles and amassed over $94 million in career winnings.
