On Sunday, a budget deal was reached by state lawmakers, which will grant 23 million Californians an "inflation relief" check of up to $1,050.
"We have an agreement with the legislature on California’s budget!
This budget takes immediate actions to give $$ back to millions who are grappling with global inflation and rising costs while tackling some of the greatest challenges of our time."
- Office of the Governor of California
The checks are part of a $17 billion relief package, including a suspension of the state's sales tax on diesel fuel and funding for rent and utility bills.
Earlier proposal was to give stimulus checks of $400 per car, capped at two vehicles. It was later changed to include those with lower incomes.
