NASA Prepares to Power-Down Voyager Spacecraft after More than 44 Years

After more than 44, the Voyager spacecraft are entering their very final phase.

To stretch the spacecraft's trips until 2030, NASA intends to start shutting down some of their systems.

Voyager 1 has four remaining functioning instruments, and Voyager 2 has five.
Voyager 1 is currently 14.5 billion miles (23.3bn km) from Earth and it takes 20 light hours and 33 minutes to travel that distance.
Both of the Voyagers were launched from Cape Canaveral in 1977, 15 days apart.

In 1986, Voyager 2 became the first spacecraft to fly past Uranus; three years later it passed Neptune.
